The National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in the year 1969, marking the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, whose ideas and ideals form the foundation of the scheme. It was introduced with the core belief that students should not only focus on academics but also contribute meaningfully to society’s upliftment. Mahatma Gandhi always emphasized that students must develop a strong sense of social responsibility, which is the spirit that NSS seeks to cultivate.
The central aim of NSS is to develop the personality of students through community service. It is based on the conviction that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole. Through involvement in various social service activities, students are expected to learn the value of democratic living, leadership, discipline, and selfless service.
